One factor that can influence growth and reproduction of microorganism -PH value

PH value is a very important factor that can influence growth and reproduction of microorganism. Though there is a little difference about the appropriate range of ph value in different researches, all researches indicate that most of the microorganism can grow well in neutral and slightly alkaline environment. Bacteria and actinomyces prefer to grow in neutral and slightly alkaline environment while fungi prefer to grow in acidic environment. When bacteria and fungi digest organics, some organic acid will be generated. In the initial stage of composting, organic acid will be calculated, which will cause that ph value decreases. Acid environment is good for fungi to grow and for lignin and cellulosic to degrade. With degrading of organic acid, ph value of soil gets increased. Therefore, decomposition of bacteria and fungi will be fast.
